Seattle Base Captures Traveling Dolphins

Bremerton Base has held the Western District 4 “Traveling Dolphins” for over a year, but they were ‘captured’ by Seattle Base on Tuesday April 21 2015 at the Bremerton Base meeting by Seattle Base Commander Dick Gonzalez, Karl Krompholz, and Pat Householder.

The Traveling Dolphins program was established by then District Commander John Mansfield for Western District 4 and the program has spread nationwide since inception. The reason for this fun program is simply to encourage more base-to-base interaction within the district.

The ‘rules’ are that the base wishing to capture the Traveling Dolphins must make a visit to the base holding the dolphins at their monthly meeting with at least three base members, one of whom must be a current base officer. As part of the turnover, the receiving base members relate a personal ‘sea story’ to the base members present. In the case of two bases attempting to capture the Traveling Dolphins, the one with the most members present wins. If there is a tied number of members, a coin toss determines the winner.

The Traveling Dolphins started with South Sound Base and were first captured by Bremerton Base, then by Olympic Peninsula Base, then returned to Bremerton Base, and now to Seattle Base.

You can be sure there will be a ‘raid’ on Seattle Base to capture the Traveling Dolphins again, maybe as early as our May meeting.
