Upcoming Local Events

Here are some reminders about upcoming events in the area.

Armed Forces Day Weekend at Cabela's 
Earl Greening with the Seattle Base Float at Cabela's for a previous event
On Saturday May 20, Armed Forces Day, and Sunday May 21 Seattle Base will set up our float in the parking lot of Cabela's Tulalip store (9810 Quil Ceda Blvd Tulalip WA 98271).
We will be there both days from 9AM to 3PM. If you are planning on attending, please contact one of the base officers or you can just show up. We hope to see you at Cabelas, lets make it a banner outing.

Bremerton 69th Armed Forces Day Parade, Saturday, May 20
The Kitsap Credit Union Armed Forces Day Parade held in Bremerton is the largest and longest running Armed Forces Day Parade in the nation. This year is the 69th year of the event, held on the third Saturday in May in downtown Bremerton. This event includes the Puget Sound Energy Heroes Barbecue that provides a free hot dog, chips and soda to all active-duty, reserve, retired and veteran service personnel.
The parade's annual attendance is 25,000 to 40,000 people from all over Western Washington. Entries come from as far away as Oregon and Spokane to participate in this event. The parade includes all branches of the military, police and firefighters, youth organizations, dignitaries, commercial businesses, car clubs and more. The parade starts at 10AM

Tolling of the Boats event at Deterrent Park at Bangor Base
Thursday, May 25th, 1030, Bremerton Base will partake in the "Tolling of the Boats" event at Deterrent Park at Bangor Base. This is the Thursday prior to Memorial Day. John Clear of Olympic Peninsula Base has taken charge of this event along with Pam Love of Group 9. Please check the Bremerton Base website for more information.

Battle of Midway Commemoration

The Naval Order of the United States (NOUS), Northwest Commandery is hosting a brunch on Saturday, June 10 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Midway. The event will be held on Naval Station Everett at the All American Restaurant and will begin at 11:30 am. A video will be shown and an informative handout will be available to attendees.
Cost of brunch is $8.95 per person. Members of the Naval Submarine League and USSVI are invited to attend this event and can RSVP to Seattle Base member Curt Maier at (cell/text) 425-505-3649 or (email) curt@curtmmaier.com.
